Film Screening of Trikal: Past, Present and Future (1985)
16 May 2026 to 16 May 2026Sunaparanta Goa Centre for the Arts invites you to a special screening of Shyam Benegal’s acclaimed film Trikal: Past, Present and Future (1985) on 16 May 2026 at 6:45 pm.
Presented as part of the ongoing exhibition Growing Up in Mário’s World, celebrating the birth centenary of Mário de Miranda, the evening brings together cinema, music, memory, and Goa’s cultural history in a rare and special way.
Set against the backdrop of a changing Goa, Trikal explores family, identity, longing, and the passage of time with remarkable sensitivity and depth. The evening will feature a special introduction by renowned musician and cultural icon Remo Fernandes, whose music and onscreen appearance formed an unforgettable part of the film.

Synopsis
Set in 1961 Goa, Trikal tells the story of a wealthy and influential Goan Catholic family and the changes they go through over a period of time. Narrated through the memories of someone close to the family, the film reflects on love, relationships, tradition, and a society on the brink of change. As relationships shift and old certainties begin to fade,
the film quietly reveals a world caught between past and future. Trikal remains one of Indian cinema’s most memorable portraits of Goa and its layered histories.

Remo Fernandes is one of Goa’s most celebrated musicians and performers, known for shaping the landscape of Indian pop and rock music with his distinctive voice, stage presence, and songs that reflected social issues. Over the decades, his music has crossed languages and genres, earning him audiences across India and beyond. A recipient of the Padma Shri, Remo’s work in Trikal came during the early phase of his career, alongside projects such as Old Goan Gold, and just before his mainstream breakthrough in Bollywood.
