Exhibition Walkthrough & Music Performance, 28 June 2026, 5pm

28 Jun 2026 to 28 Jun 2026

Sunaparanta Goa Centre for the Arts invited everyone to the closing celebration of the Mário de Miranda birth centenary exhibition, Growing Up in Mario’s World, on Sunday, 28 June 2026

The evening featured a walkthrough by Shaun Nicholas Lobo, whose collection of over 100 Mário de Miranda works formed the heart of the exhibition. Celebrating the vibrant Goan spirit so often captured in Miranda’s drawings, the Azavedo Brass Band, led by Francisco Xavier Azavedo ‘Putush’, presented music that has long been part of Goa’s feasts and celebrations, with Bambino Dias introducing each musical set.

Guests joined us for an evening of culture, music and memories as we celebrated Mário de Miranda’s enduring legacy and bid farewell to this special exhibition.

Led by veteran musician Francisco Xavier Azavedo ‘Putush’, the nine-member Azavedo Brass Band from Merces brings together a remarkable wealth of musical experience drawn from military, police, fire services, church and community bands. Comprising Adelino Pereira, Lenny Fernandes, Roque Lazarus, Semy Xavier Miguel Bragança, Celfra Lourdes Azavedo, David Pereira, Manuel Caiado, Putush and Antonio Caetano Azavedo, the ensemble is united by a shared passion for preserving Goa's traditional brass band heritage. Through their music, they keep alive a sound that has accompanied generations

of Goans at feasts, weddings, processions and celebrations, carrying forward a cherished and enduring musical tradition.
