24 Feb 2021 to 24 Feb 2021Sunaparanta Goa Centre for the Arts invites you to a talk and presentation by textile designer and weaver Poonam Pandit titled Weaving with Goan Weavers.
Along with an illuminating visual journal, Pandit recounts her discovery and enduring relationship with the last practicing family of traditional Goan weavers. Her talk takes us through her journey of the weaving process, learnings from indigenous tribes, the Gawda Sari and Goan fabrics, her projects with Wendell Rodricks, life around the loom and her label, Kalakar.
As part of her work for our ongoing exhibition Retellings, Pandit presents an anthology of weaves showcasing the evolution of fibre as it journeys through the ancient past into the present. Her work is displayed as a series of tactile compositions that draw upon the narrative of thread as it weaves its way across traditions, cultures and technologies.
Retellings is in collaboration with Goa Open Arts.
