Kantar Goa, 2024
From the beginning of the 20th century to the present day, the cantaram, often portrayed as the side-show of tiatr, stands as a strong reflection of Goan essence. This film argues that this side-show has, in fact, been the main show, capable of transcending the stage, reaching people’s homes through records, airing on the radio, and expanding further through social media. The documentary aims to explore the roadmap forged by these Konkani songs, especially the works of C. Alvares, Remmie Colaso and Jacinto Vaz upon which the research is based. It tracks how the cantaram of these artists and their peers transitioned from the stage to social media platforms, highlighting their enduring significance in today’s context.
