Badel/Sarbach

During their 2-month residency, the artist duo, Badel/Sarbach explored Life as an Event artistically and philosophically, discovering the relationship between the animated and the unanimated and how it can be explored and experienced in a performative way.

Their residency was part of Sunaparanta's Artist-in-Residence Lab (AIR-L), and also as part of the Environmental Art Exchange (EAE) project curated and produced by Shazeb Shaikh, developed for the International ‘To Gather’ grant by Pro Helvetia - Swiss Arts Council.

Tinnitus Tropic by Flurina Badel

In addition to her work as a visual artist, Flurina Badel is one of the best-known rhaetho-romanic writers. During her residency, Badel researched and wrote a new multilingual recital offering insight into her literary work and an introduction to the rhaeto-romance language (one of the four official languages of Switzerland since 1938).

Life as an Event by Jérémie Sarbach

Based on research about tropical Dendrochronology (determining climate histories) and Mussels (in the zooarcheological context), Jérémie spoke about Life as an Event with the first chapter of his new work-in-progress video installation. In this project, an old carpenter from Panjim plays a central role and is the starting point of a longer journey going around the world.

Badel/Sarbach have been working as an artist duo since 2014 on topics such as the change/construction of landscape, as well as the question of the relationship between nature and culture in the anthropocene and new forms of communication.

Jérémie Sarbach is a contemporary Swiss artist. He studied in Basel, New York and Vienna and holds a MA and BA in Fine Arts and critical studies. He works with many mediums like installation, sculpture, photography, and performance.
